I am based in the North East of England, Newcastle, Tyne and Wear.
I got my 1st cavies when I was about 21, there was 3 of them, supposedly 2 sows and 1 boar but I never had any babies from them. After that I had rabbits, mainly Netherland Dwarfs. When we moved house I couldnt keep the rabbits as there was no space for them (no garden) so I went without any for a few years. Then we moved house again and had a huge garden, my sister-in-law gave me 2 of her pet cavies, they were supposed to be 2 sows but unknown to me one was a boar and I ended up with 2 babies. A few years later and I was left with none and I missed them a lot so in the local paper was a pet boar free to good home, so off we went to see him. He was a gorgeous looking boy with a long curly coat. At this point I had never seen a Merino before and it took us quite awhile to find out what breed he was. After searching on the internet for information about cavies I came across the cavybreeder site and saw a lady (Elizabeth Elmar of Sunvally Stud) from Durham selling a trio of Texels and a trio of Merinos. I was on the phone straight away and within the week I had the start of my breeding colony of longhairs, and since then I have gone from strength to strength.
Then I decided to start up a rescue, I wanted to help as many of these beautiful little creatures as I could. Soon the shed was filling up. Not long after that I met Sue and Steve who have selfs in cream and white and they also do rescue work. So along came some creams and whites and then some buffs.
And the rest they say is history, with my stud building up slowly but surely I am breeding better piggies all of whom are loved equally.
